Burned to Death at San Anselmo

A fire at San Anselmo Saturday morning resulted in the total destruction of the home of Capt. and Mrs. F. A. Blake in the Bush Tract and in the tragic death of Captain F. A. Blake, a retired British army officer.

The fire broke out at about 9 o’clock in the morning and is supposed to have been caused by the explosion of an oil stove. Mr. Blake went into the house to recover some valuables but was overcome by the flames and smoke, and his body was almost consumed by the fire while the wife stood on the lawn calling for him.

The fire department responded but were unable to do anything except prevent the spread of the fire. The total loss is estimated at $6000.

Capt. Blake has a brother who is Governor-General at Ceylon, China, and the Captain is said to have distinguished himself in the Boxer War.

He was 66 years of age and leaves a wife and one son.

Coroner Sawyer took charge of the remains and a jury returned a verdict of death from accidental burning.
