Mrs. P. D. Browne Called By Death
Mrs. P. D. Browne, one of the most active and prominent church women in California passed away at her home in Camp Meeker on Thursday of last week. Mrs. Browne, although 75 years old, was up to the hour of her death one of the most active religious workers, and her demise caused great sorrow to her many friends in the field of humanitarian bettering.
Mrs. Browne came to California in the late seventies and immediately became identified with the work of the Presbyterian Church, of which she was a member. Her life work was with the Occidental Board of Presbyterian Foreign Missions and the Presbyterian Orphanage at San Anselmo. She assisted in the organization of the Occidental Board and for 25 years served as its president. She always had the missionary cause at heart and at one time trained workers for the foreign and home fields.
Mrs. Browne was founder of the Presbyterian Orphanage. She was tireless in the effort to bring it into being and in the struggle to house, feed, clothe, and instruct the wards that year after year demanded its shelter.
The funeral services were held from the First Presbyterian Church in San Rafael last Sunday afternoon.
