Mrs. Ella Denman, Of Olema, Answers Death’s Summons

Mrs. Ella Minerva Denman, wife of John R. Denman, of Olema, where she was born 71 years ago, passed away at “Minerva Lodge” there last Thursday afternoon. She had not enjoyed good health for about a year.

Several weeks ago Mrs. Denman suffered a stroke and entered the General Hospital at Santa Rosa, where she was give special treatment, and was able to be returned to her home, apparently improved in health.

Mrs. Earl Lupton, her daughter of Los Angeles, has been with her since. The mother suffered the second stroke Thursday which proved fatal. Mrs. Denman was known, loved and admired for her kind and loving nature. She was charitable and possessed with a disposition which radiated life and joy wherever she went, or with whomsoever she met.

Mrs. Denman, before her marriage, was Ella Minerva Parsons, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Chas. S. Parsons of Olema. Her father was a prominent dairyman of Marin. She was a sister of the late Charles Parsons, Jr.

Deceased was a graduate of the public schools of Sonoma county, and completed her education in a private school for girls in Oakland. She was considered one of the beauties of her day, and possessed attractiveness and a strong personality.

Dec. 5, 1888, she became the bride of John R. Denman, one of the leading families of the state. The family had celebrated their golden wedding on Monday before the mother’s death.

The Denmans were engaged in the dairy and stock business in Sonoma county for some time, and their home was opened for many social events. She was active in the Congregational Church and was a member of a whist club in Petaluma for many years.

After moving to this county, the Denmans continued their church and social life, and their home at “Minerva Lodge” was the scene of many social affairs.

Mrs. Denman was the mother of three children: Charles R. Denman, Ketchikan, Alaska; Mrs. Earl L. Lupton (Nellie Agnes Denman), wife of Dr. Lupton, a prominent physician of Los Angeles; and the late Minerva Denman. There are three grandchildren: Earl L. Lupton, Kenneth and Wm. Denman. She was the sister-in-law of Mrs. George P. McNear, Mrs. J. Edgar Allen, Misses Nellie and Catherine Denman and Frank H. Denman, of Petaluma.

The funeral was held from the Chapel of the Chimes, Santa Rosa, Monday afternoon. Inurnment followed.
