Sam Yee Confesses Guilt in Shooting
Sam Yee, arrested by Sheriff J. J. Keating last Thursday following the death by a bullet wound early that morning of Wong Chong. Keating states that Yee has confessed firing the fatal shot. He has been charged with murder. The officials believe that the killing was the result of a tong feud.
Sam Yee has admitted the killing, but has intimated through an interpreter, that the bullet was intended for another man than Wong Chong. The officers have been unable to learn from him the name of the man he intended to kill. Chinese from San Francisco and Oakland, prominently connected with Chinese fraternal orders, have urged Keating to press the investigation to the end that the motive behind the murder may be revealed. Sam Yee and Wong Chong, the dead man, were members of the same tong and, according to Chinese questioned by Keating, were close friends.
