Mrs. Anna Leahy Passed Away

All the modern methods of transportation and communication failed to bring Manager H. Leahy of the Tivoli Opera House to San Francisco from New York in time to reach the bedside of his mother at her home in San Anselmo before her death early Saturday morning. His brother James F. Leahy telegraphed from San Francisco Thursday morning notifying the theatrical manager, who had just arrived in New York from London, that his mother was dying, but although he left immediately on the fastest train, death reached his aged mother first.

Mrs. Anna Leahy died from the natural results of advanced age. She reached her 80th birthday last March, having been born in Cork, Ireland, March 23, 1830. Her maiden name was O’Brien. When 12 years of age she came to America with her parents and settled in Boston. At the age of 27 she was married to Dennis Leahy, a young ship carpenter, who came on the same vessel with her to this country.

In 1862 the couple arrived in San Francisco, where Dennis Leahy died in 1869. During the last few years Mrs. Leahy lived in her beautiful country home in San Anselmo. Her son, James F. Leahy, who is vice-president of the Rudgear-Merle Co. of San Francisco, has remained with his mother to comfort her in her long illness. As had her daughter Ann. The eldest son, Dennis is dead. In Boston the old family home is still kept up by members of the family.

A sad circumstance, surrounding Mrs. Leahy’s death is the disappointment she suffered in not seeing her son William before her death. Four months ago she sent for him when in New York, and he reached her side to find her improved. He arrived in time for the funeral services, which took place Tuesday forenoon at 9:30 o’clock at the San Anselmo Church, Rev. Father Egan officiating. Interment was held at Holy Cross Cemetery at San Francisco.
