EDWARD MASSEN

Napa – Edward Massen, Napa merchant who was reared in Fairfax, suffered a fatal heart attack yesterday while working in his paint store. He was 56.

Massen was born in San Francisco and lived in Fairfax with his family until 1949 when he moved to Napa. He was graduated from Tamalpais High School, and served in the United States Merchant Marine during World War II.

Massen was active in scouting, serving many years as neighborhood Scout commissioner. He also was a member of Napa Lodge 892, Benevolent and Paternal Order of Elks; Napa Parlor, Native Sons of the Golden West; Loyal Order of Moose, and Toastmasters Club.

He is survived by his wife, Nettie, who operates a fabric shop in Napa; two sons, Roy A. and Michael E. Massen of Napa; his mother, Caroline Massen of Fairfax, and two brothers, Charles Massen of Larkspur and Armand Massen of Yucca Valley, San Bernardino County.

The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. tomorrow at the Richard Pierce mortuary in Napa, followed by private inurnment.

The family prefers memorial contributions to a favorite charity.
