Belvedere Woman Leaves Estate Worth $1,309,000
Mrs. Grace Tognazzi Gale, 74, of Belvedere, Marin philanthropist who died two years ago, left an estate of $1,309,000, according to a final report filed this week by inheritance tax appraiser Lee V. Holman.
Her husband, insurance executive Maurice A. Gale of 421 Golden Gate Avenue, Belvedere, received $363,000. Mrs. Gale left the bulk of the estate, $720,000, to her sister-in-law, Emily de Martini of Oakland. The inheritance tax on that bequest alone came to $148,000.
Mrs. Gale, daughter of a wealthy banker and financier, had been past president and vice president of the Guide Dogs for the Blind and a director of the Marin County Humane Society until her death on Oct. 25, 1961.
She left $2,436 each to the Guide Dogs for the Blind and to the Marin County Humane Society, and $4,872 to the Shriners Hospital in San Francisco. Other large bequests included $239,900 to her friend in Menlo Park, Jayne McCracken; $25,801 to Louis de Martini of Oakland, and $20,600 to her nephew, Doan Metz of Oakland.
She named her husband as executor of her estate.
