Walter Castro Estate Valued At Half Million

Walter Rafael Castro, 68, Marin County Board of Supervisors chairman who died July 16, 1963, left a personal and joint tenancy estate valued at nearly half-a-million dollars, according to an inheritance tax appraiser’s report filed in Marin Superior Court.

The personal estate is $20,883.77 after funeral and other deductions, and $428,535.89 in joint tenancy with his wife, Fanny, who survived him and resides at 10 Moncada Way, San Rafael.

The former involves about $9,000 in stocks and shares, $12,000 in savings accounts, and approximately $1,200 in cast. The joint tenancy estate involves about $165,000 in stocks and shares, $64,000 in savings, a promissory note worth $27,000, the family home property valued at $65,000, and one-half interest in Fourth Street property in San Rafael, $22,500.

Castro was one of the county’s pioneer auto mechanics, opening a garage and auto sales business on Fourth Street in San Rafael. He retired from the garage’s management in 1955.
