Marinite Leaves $300,000 Estate

Bank deposit books, stocks and bonds worth $287,000 were discovered yesterday in the Kentfield home of Edward Elijah Bower, 74, who was found dead in his bed yesterday morning at 4 Acacia Avenue.

Asst. Coroner William Bradley, who discovered the cache of stocks and bonds tied in bundles in a trunk, said an autopsy performed yesterday showed Bower had died of a ruptured artery in his stomach.

“The sale of his property should bring his estate to $300,000,” said Bradley. “He left all of it to his brother, Sidney Howard Bowers of Stalwart, Province of Sasketchewan, Canada.”

Boer, a bachelor, was a retired passenger agent for Canadian National Railways and had lived in Marin County for 25 years. He was known as “a good neighbor” to nearby residents.

“He was a quiet person who never said much to anybody,” said Louis Cheesewright, who lives at 6 Acacia Avenue. “He was a very respectable man. He minded his own business and was a good neighbor.”

Cheesewright yesterday called the sheriff’s office because he had not seen Bower. Deputies found the body.

The California Death Index gives his name as Ernest E. Bower, born January 17, 1889.
