This looks like a really helpful site. I'm trying to trace my family who left England for California in 1901, and I'm interested in learninmg how they would have travelled from Ellis Island to Oakland: by train or road ? How long would it have taken ? Was it expensive ? How comfortable - or not would it have been ? Are there any on-line articles describing such a journey at the time ?
