Galileo "Class of 1946"
Anybody out there remember Galileo High School It was a three year high school in those days. The Junior High School I attended (Marina) on Fillmore and Chestnut Streets went from 7th through 9th grade. I think they call it middle school now. I use to live on Pixley Street off of Fillmore Street in the Marina district It was quite a hike from there to Galileo. Once in a while we would hop on the street car on Chestnut Street if we were late for school. I think it was the "F" car. Or maybe the "D" car. Long, long time ago.
I don't live in San Francisco any more but I still keep in contact with a lot of my school chums from Galileo and have been to many reunions. In fact our 60th is coming up this summer. We have to add more classes every time so that we can get enough people as we are all getting older and you know what that means. I would have to say the best memories of my life were spent at Galileo High School. Even the trips to the Crystal Plunge to learn how to swim during PE classes. That's right. Leave school and travel by street car to North Beach so you could pass the swimming test before you could graduate. I think it took me the whole three years to pass the test.
This is why I love this web site. It brings me back to the "City by the Bay" I love it! (MY CITY)
