The sights, the sounds, the smells. The honesty. The Belt Line Railroad chugging along with freight cars for the piers. Little cafes for working people. The Ferry Building with the relief map of California and the State Mining Museum. The creaking sounds of wood as a ferry boat came to a stop. Joyous passengers heading for the SP Oakland Mole and the Overland Limited.
