My husband and I lived in SF in the early 60s and loved going to Fishermans's Wharf in the morning as the fishing fleet came in. We bought crabs right off the boat, had coffee at a grimy coffee shop, and walked through all the bustle of the morning.
Many years later we took our children to share this part of our youth and were horrified at the tacky museums and 'attractions' and cheap tourist spots! The kids of course loved it, which really made us crazed!
