When my mother was a small child, she was sent to San Francisco to live with her grandmother and an uncle. I know that the City held a special place in her heart. As a very small child, she took me, by bus, from our home in Washington State to visit relatives who lived on 26th Avenue. My first memory of those vacations, was of seeing my first movie, The Wizard of Oz, and then going to the Pig and Whistle for lunch. The desserts were brought, on what I remember as a huge tray. You could choose any dessert you wanted. What a marvelous adventure for a very small child from a small town in Washington.
