: I remember hearing many times my dad telling me how he rode his bike across the Golden Gate before it actually opened to the public. He was 13 at the time and rode his bike from their home on 27th Avenue. I can also remember my Aunt Iyona telling me about the "cold water flat" they lived in on 27th Ave. and how she hated having to heat the water to take a bath or do the dishes. : My father Lee Loberg was only twenty when he walked across the Golden Gate Bridge the day it opened in 1939.

: : Further back and not so fun was my Grandma's memories of being 14 snd living in a tentin Golden Gate Park to avoid gas fires after the 06 quake. She lived on Beulah Street near what is now the Haight. She was Avia Tietjen.

I walked across the Golden Gate Bridge with my mother and father on pedestrian day May 27, 1937. My wife and her father did also but I didn't know her then. My mother was 8 years old in 1906 and remembers that her mother had to cook their meals on a wood burning stove out in front of their house on Peralta St. on Bernal Heights.
