: : I would choose John Henry Church who was my great grandfather's nephew and the stepson of Alfred J Ellis after whom Ellis street is named. I have been researching the colorful rogue through his divorce trial at which he pleaded he couldn't be divorced from his second wife because he had never been divorced from his first wife and though all his financial ups and downs until he ended up broke like his mentor Alfred J Ellis. After following his life for so long I feel as if I know him. I'm sure he was a charmer and would be great fun to have dinner with.

Hi, I'm doing a paper on mission delores and Mary A. Church Ellis is buried with her child Theresa. You gave me the idea to look up divorce records and I did find one between Alfred and Mary Ellis and the outcome was unknown. If you know anymore details--let me know--I just know he was a merchant from NY--I did find it curious that Mary and child were buried together without mention of the husband. L
