Remember the streetcars. When I would be put down for a nap I would be in a haze half asleep and I could the streetcars running up and down 26th Street. We were about a half block away. I still remember the motor noise. We used to put double headed nails on the tracks and after a streetcar passed we would have a small sword. The streetcar would flatten out the nail. We didn't do this very often because our parents told us a fib that the nail could derail the streetcar. We didn't do it much after that. My favorite ride was on the 40 Mission (I believe). It went up the hill through Colma and ended up in San Mateo. What a neat way to travel to San Mateo. It was a little slow. You can still see the tracks between the islands in the center of Mission Street through Colma unless they have taken them out. The last time I saw them was in the 1980's visiting my relatives at Olivett Memorial Park.
