SSF Boy Is First 1966 D.C. Fatality

The first traffic fatality of 1966 was a seven year old South San Francisco boy who died early Saturday from injuries sustained in an auto accident Friday night.

Daniel Prince, 716 Baden Avenue, succumbed at Mary’s Help Hospital in Daly City eight hours after the collision.

According to reports, the Prince family’s small car stalled on Skyline Boulevard at the Alemany Boulevard interchange at 7:50 p.m. Two cars avoided the stalled auto, but the third driver, Peter H. Luedtke, 18, Daly City, crashed into the rear of the Prince car, the CHP reported.

The boy was thrown from the back seat to the front seat and against the dashboard, suffering head injuries, Deputy Coroner Robert Cole stated.

Whitney Prince, 27, the boy’s father and a friend; Ida Wright, 72, Colma, riding in the back seat; were taken to Mary’s Help Hospital with injuries.

A second grade student at Spruce School, Daniel is survived by a brother, Mark; and his parents. He was a member of the SSF Boys Club.
