Daly City Boy Kills Himself
A Daly City boy apparently killed himself Monday morning in the basement den of his home at 201 Lincoln Avenue by shooting himself in the brain with a 22 caliber rifle.
Dead is Gerald Kurkjian, 14, a straight A student at Ben Franklin Intermediate School.
The boy was found dying on the basement floor by his mother, Mrs. Henry Kurkjian, at 10 a.m. Monday.
He had called his mother at work and told her he wasn’t going to school. She told him she would come home and drive him there.
He died at 11:20 a.m. at Mary’s Help Hospital.
Daly City Police investigating the matter said there was nothing to determine why the boy may have taken his life. No suicide note was left.
A hint that it might have been “gang pressure” was discounted by Principal Harry Aronson.
The principal said that Gerald’s death took everyone by surprise. He was a quiet studious boy.
Police surmised that the “gang” implication may have come from comments made by the boy to his mother that “he was disturbed” that many of his fellow students didn’t show respect to their parents.
Police also said the boy apparently missed his father a great deal. The father, Henry Kurkjian, is European sales manager for the George S. May Company and has been in Europe for the past 18 months.
