Accident Orphans Seven
Parents Killed In Brisbane
Seven Brisbane children were orphaned this Christmastide when both their parents were killed in a grinding one-car crash on Old Bayshore Road, late yesterday.
Leon Durham, 40, and his wife, Betta, 39, were returning home shortly after 4 p.m. when their car went into a spin on the rain-slick road and hurtled into a bulldozer parked parked some ten yards off the pavement.
Long-Time Residents
The Durhams were pronounced dead on arrival at Peninsula Hospital, where they were taken immediately after the accident.
The couple were long-time residents of Brisbane, residing at 169 Lake Street.
Durham was co-owner of the Hot Corner Bar in San Francisco. His wife worked as a cocktail waitress at Basin Street West, also in San Francisco.
The couple is survived by seven children, ranging in age from 5 to 20 years old, and two grandchildren.
Eldest of the Durham children is Esther Heinzle, 100 East Moltke Avenue, Daly City.
In School
The other children all reside in Brisbane. They are Jeffery, 5; Randy, 8; Paula 13; Ricky, 16; Larry, 17, and Lonnie, 18.
The three youngest children attend school is Brisbane, while the eldest attend Jefferson High School in Daly City.
Police said apparently Mrs. Durham was driving the vehicle at the time of the accident.
The force of the impact threw Mrs. Durham over to the passenger’s side of the car, Police said.
A family spokesman said funeral arrangements were pending.
