Bruno Joseph Santini

Bruno Joseph Santini, a Half Moon Bay native who farmed on the Coastside even while living in Pacifica, died April 27 at his Pacifica home due to a heart attack. He was 82.

Mr. Santini was born and raised in Half Moon Bay, and attended Half Moon Bay High School, from which he graduated in 1944. He entered the Navy upon graduation and served in the Pacific theater until 1946.

On June 22, 1947, he married his wife, Theresa. In 1948 they settled in what is now the Linda Mar area in Pacifica.

He kept farming and ranching on the Coastside, as he had done since he began growing artichokes and Brussels spouts with his father in what is now the Sea Haven area of the Coastside. In time, he owned and worked three ranches, two near Half Moon Bay and a third, for a brief while, in Pacifica.

“He loved it,” Theresa Santini said of her husband’s outlook toward farming.

Mr. Santini particularly loved gathering with his farming cronies at a particular barn on Verde Road.

“He smiled all the time. He was a kind and gentle man,” said Mrs. Santini. “He loved to tell jokes. He loved to sing when we had gatherings. He loved to sing, he and his brother. Italian songs.”

And, she added, “He was a good-looking son-of-a-gun, too.”

Mr. Santini is survived by his wife of 58 years, Theresa Santini of Pacifica, his children Lynda Santini of Montara and Gerald Santini of Pacifica, grandchildren Mia Fogli, Serena Santini, Joya Fogli, Chez Santini and Angela Santini, and great-granddaughter Sintiana Jones.

A vigil service was held Monday at Miller-Dutra Coastside Chapel, and a funeral Mass was celebrated Tuesday at Our Lady of the Pillar Catholic Church, both in Half Moon Bay. Interment took place at Skylawn Memorial Park.
