David E. Gillespie

David E. Gillespie, a 26-year resident of Half Moon Bay and La Honda, died May 5 in Florida at age 67 after a brief illness.

Mr. Gillespie was born Jan. 15, 1939 in Los Angeles. He attended elementary school and high school with his brothers in Burbank, and then served four years in the Navy before his honorable discharge in 1962. He earned a degree from the College of San Mateo.

He married his wife, Patricia, in 1965 and they raised three children on the Coastside while Mr. Gillespie worked in the aerospace industry at Lockheed. In 1996, he was transferred to Cape Canaveral, Fla.

He loved living on the coast and the time he spent with family and friends here, said daughter Noreen Ray of Salinas.

More recently, Mr. Gillespie enjoyed travel, photography and spending time with granddaughter Erica. "He will be remembered for his kind, even manner, and his love of family, kids, animals and the outdoors," his daughter said.

Mr. Gillespie is preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Thomas Gillespie. He is survived by his children and their families, Noreen and Steve Ray of Salinas, Dave and Debbie Gillespie of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Ed Gillespie of New York, and his granddaughter, Erica Ray. He is also survived by brother Patrick Gillespie of Palm Desert, Calif., and numerous nieces and nephews.

A memorial Mass will be celebrated Tuesday, May 30, at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of the Pillar Church at 400 Church St. in Half Moon Bay, followed by burial at Skylawn Memorial Park.

Memorials may be sent to the American Diabetes Association at 1475 S. Bascom Ave., No. 103, Campbell, CA 95008, or to the donor's favorite charity.
