Coastside Pioneer Dies
Mrs. Mamie Cowley, former owner of Cowley Ocean Beach Tavern on Miramar Beach in Half Moon Bay, died Sunday morning [June 20] at a Redwood City rest home. She was 89. She lived at 1202 Hudson Street in Redwood City, moving there from Half Moon Bay in 1955.
Mrs. Cowley and her husband, Frank, bought the tavern at the turn of the century. Her husband died in 1913 and she operated the business until 1955. She was a native of Quncy, Ill., moving here in 1900.
She is survived by a sister, Catherine Robinson, who made her home at the same address in Redwood City.
Funeral services will be conducted Thursday morning at 9 o'clock at Redwood Chapel, thence to St. Pius' Catholic Church for a requiem mass commencing at 9:30. Interment will be in the family plot in Quincy, Ill.
The rosary will be recited Wednesday evening at 8:30 at the chapel.
