BENJAMIN A. BOGUE, FORMER CITY TRUSTEE, PASSES VERY SUDDENLY
HAD BEEN ILL FOR THREE WEEKS, BUT THOUGHT RECOVERING
Suffering a relapse following an attack of pleurisy that has confined him to his home for nearly three weeks, Benjamin J. Bogue, former city trustee of San Mateo and a prominent figure in Knights of Columbus circle died last night at 12 o'clock. Bogue, during the past six months, has suffered considerably from illness the last three weeks he was confined to his home. A few days ago he was believed to be on the road to recovery and had expressed the hopes to friends that within a short time he would be out and about again.
Suffers Relapse
However, late last night he suffered a relapse and died before he could be revived by medical aid. With him at the time of his death, which occurred at the Bogue home corner of Highland Avenue and Grand Avenue his widow, Mrs. B A Bogue, and their only son, Benjamin A. Bogue. Bogue was elected a member of the board of trustees of San Mateo in 1918 and served until 1922. During that time many splendid municipal improvements were brought about and Bogus, always interested in the development of his home community, took an active part in all civic affairs. During his term of office he was park and boulevard commissioner and as such he greatly enhanced the city's beauty by insisting on the proper care of municipal parks and the many "islands" that dot the streets of San Mateo Park and other sections of the city.
Active in K of C
The deceased took an active part in the affairs of San Mateo Council, Knights of Columbus, and served in nearly all the chairs. During the war he was named grand knight of the local council and under his direction much good work was carried on among the soldiers at Camp Fremont. Bogue was a native of San Francisco, but came with his family to San Mateo twenty years ago and has resided here ever since. He has been connected with the local office of the F. Thomas
Cleaning and Dyeing company for more than fifteen years and in his work came into contact with hundreds of local residents.
Funeral Services
Funeral services will be held en Saturday morning at 9 o'clock from the Bogue residence. The funeral cortege will move to St. Catherine's Catholic church in Burlingame, where a requiem high mass for the repose of his soul will be celebrated beginning at 9:30 o'clock. Interment will be in Holy Cross cemetery.
