Anne Eason Succumbs

Funeral services were held Monday for Anna M. Eason, long-time resident and civic leader of Daly City who died last Wednesday following a lengthy illness.

Mrs. Eason, a member of the Daly City Recreation Commission and a former member of the Daly City Recreation Commission and a former member of the Jefferson Union High School District Board of Trustees, was affectionately known as “Mrs. Recreation” in Daly City for her work in the establishment of a recreation program.

For those efforts she was nationally honored by the National Recreation Association at a testimonial given in her honor three years ago. She had been a member of the Daly City Recreation Commission since its inception.

Mrs. Eason had been associated with almost every fund raising and worthy cause in the Daly City area. She divided her time among the Daly City Senior Citizens, the Daly City Civic Club, the Girl Scouts, the Well Baby Clinic, the Village Nursery School, the Heart and Cancer funds and the Florence Crittenton Circle.

She was elected to the Jefferson Board of Trustees in 1947 and served as clerk of that body since 1949. She had also served on the Human Resources Commission of San Mateo County until ill health forced her to resign.

She was also active in PTA work and had served as president of the General Pershing School PTA which awarded her a life membership. Up until recently, she has been “Santa Claus” to the children of the Crocker-Pershing School every Christmas.

During World War II she headed the Daly City Service Men’s Club.

When Mrs. Eason retired from the school board in 1964, she was honored with a testimonial dinner attended by several hundred persons. At that time she was presented with an Assembly Resolution signed by Speaker Jesse Unruh.

Mayor Bernard J. Lycett ordered the flags flown at half-mast and declared an official period of mourning until after the funeral Monday afternoon.

Several hundred persons attended the services held at W.C. Lasswell’s. A motorcycle escort was given the long-time Daly City resident to Olivet Memorial Park.

Councilman Edward Dennis, a close friend of Mrs. Eason said, “Our beloved Anna will be missed by her innumerable friends.”

“Daly City citizens can well be proud that Mrs. Eason lived here, he continued. “Her work was that of good will, always striving to make our city a better place to live, work and play.”
