SB Man Dies After Crash

The signal light at the corner of El Camino Real and Sneath Lane will be installed soon but not before San Bruno suffered its first fatality of the year at that corner.

Fred Wood, 76, of 1025 Montgomery Avenue, died at Peninsula Hospital after his car was stuck by another while the Wood auto was proceeding across El Camino to the Tanforan entrance.

The driver of the other car, Elmer Hill, 53, of Daly City, was northbound on El Camino when he stuck the Wood car broadside. Wood’s death was not immediately attributed to the accident as the circumstances are still under investigation. After colliding with the Wood car, Hill’s auto careened into a pickup truck parked near the Sneath Lane
extension.

Wood was admitted to Peninsula with head injuries and his wife, Florita, was treated for a shoulder injury. Hill was taken to Peninsula with head and neck injuries.
