Bay Shipping Leader Dies
Duncan McBryde, well known executive of the Castle and Cook Company of Hawaii and Matson Steamships Lines and a resident of Woodside, died yesterday at the Palo Alto Stanford Hospital after a long illness. He was 59 and a native of San Francisco.
McBryde retired from Matson Lines in 1959 and has devoted himself to public and community service. He was president of the Stanford Associates, a primary fund raising group at the University, a director of KQED-TV, a trustee of the Katherine Delmar Burk School of San Francisco, a member of the San Mateo Foundation, chairman of the Woodside Planning Commission and president of the Woodside Trail Club.
For years McBryde has been known for his abilities as a horseman and he was a member of the Sonoma County Trail Blazers and Frontier Club.
He is survived by his wife, the former Rosalie von Hamm of the family home at 140 Eleanor Drive in Woodside, a daughter, Bernice Cromwell of Belmont and a grandson.
Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m. tomorrow, at the Valley United Presbyterian Church, 945 Portola Valley Road.
