Bruno School Leader Dies

Dr. Ray M. Imbler, 55, 724 Cuesta avenue, San Mateo, principal of Edgemont school in San Bruno and a veteran educator in the school district, died suddenly last night, at Mills hospital after an apparent heart attack at his home.

Dr. Imbler, a native of Oregon, had been with the San Bruno Park elementary school district about eleven years. He received his doctorate in education from Stanford in 1951 after a successful teaching career in Oregon, and then accepted a position in San Bruno as principal at Northbrae school.

Subsequently, Dr. Imbler became the district's "trouble-shooter." He was assigned successively to open new schools as they became ready for occupancy during the rapid spurt in school population in San Bruno.

He opened Parkside intermediate school, Rollingwood school and Edgemont during this period, finally settling down at Edgemont. The city council last night adjourned in commemoration of his service to the community.

Dr. Imbler was a veteran of World War II, and friends say that there is a town in Oregon named for his family, it is not known yet whether his parents survive there.

Survivors include his wife, Virginia, and two children, Martin, 15, and Linda, 17. Funeral services are pending at Crosby- N. Gray chapel, Burlingame.
