DC Marine Killed in Vietnam Battle
A Daly City Marine was killed in bloody action around Quan Nam in Viet Nam earlier this month – just days before he would have reached his 19th birthday.
Dead is Sherrick (Rex) Britton, a former Jefferson High School athlete and student who is the son of Mrs. Eleanor Dachattellier of 311 Ottilia Street in the Bayshore section of Daly City.
Britton, ironically, predicted his own death in his last letter to his mother. Writing her that there was going to be “a terrible fight” he said the he hoped to be one of the lucky ones to return.
He said however, “you have to fight for what you believe in… this is my duty and I must do it.” He was willing to die for that belief.
The young marine was in Vietnam less than two months when he was killed in the clash with the Viet Cong.
He will be buried with full military honors at Golden Gate National Cemetery in San Bruno Saturday at 11 a.m.
